Message from the Head of School

Welcome to Hancock Day School. As Head of School and a (future) Hancock parent, I understand that choosing the right environment for your child’s formative years is one of the most important decisions a family can make. We are a community where every family is welcomed, and I hope you feel that sense of belonging the moment you step onto our campus. My family chose Hancock because we saw a school that balances a deep commitment to children with high-quality, rigorous programming.

At Hancock, our mission is to develop the whole student. We believe every HDS Eagle should be seen, heard, and encouraged to become an independent, self-reliant learner. Our motto, “Roots to Grow, Wings to Fly”, is not just a slogan; it is the blueprint for our PK–8 experience. We provide the "roots" through a strong academic foundation and moral character, giving our graduates the "wings" to transition to high school with confidence and optimism.

Our community is strengthened by small class sizes and a culture of open collaboration between home and school. We have designed our programs to be intentionally challenging yet supportive, fostering an environment where children feel safe taking the intellectual risks necessary for growth.
