Lacrosse!!!

This year two awesome middle schools became pioneers in Savannah adding boys lacrosse programs. Both Coastal Empire Lacrosse and The Ricky McAllastar Foundation were instrumental in the process. 28 boys are on the team at St. James and 27 are on the team at Hancock!!

With the addition of these two new programs, we now have over 200 boys playing lacrosse in Savannah. There were only 24 boys playing 5 years ago. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the growth!!

The National Weather Center has proclaimed February 6^th-10^th Severe Weather Awareness Week and the Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) has a number of events scheduled for that week. Of course one of CEMA’s top priorities is to keep residents informed and prepared especially during severe weather.

This year during Severe Weather Awareness Week, CEMA is encouraging all 5^th graders in Chatham County to participate in an essay contest. Students should tell how they will prepare for severe weather.

WJCL will invite the winner of the essay contest to appear on Good Morning Savannah with Meteorologist Jonathan Myers Friday, February 10^th to serve as a guest weather forecaster.

The top three essays will be posted on ChathamEmergency.org and on the Savannah Morning News website, Savannahnow.com.
