TestimonialsHaving a good foundation is vital in everything a person does. Hancock provided me with just that, teaching me the value of hard work, responsibility, and respect for others that guides me in my personal and business life today. Along with a solid foundation, I also built many lasting relationships. When I started Hancock I was an individual, but by the time I graduated from Hancock I was part of a family. I developed friendships and relationships at Hancock Day School that still exist today. Drew Ambos
Hancock has meant a lot to me over the years. Hancock did more than prepare me academically for the road ahead, providing me with a strong moral background as well. I was taught respect for others and self-discipline - qualities that have stayed with me throughout my journey into adulthood. With two children presently at Hancock, I strongly believe that high values and the desire to succeed are still being instilled in students today. Not only do I see their academic success, but more importantly, I am proud of the overall people that I see them becoming, thanks to Hancock and the values that are stressed daily at school. I can declare without doubt that my time at Hancock prepared me completely for my future academic endeavors and career pursuit. Academics at Hancock always challenged me and provided me with a solid base knowledge in all areas of study. My time at Hancock gave me the capacity to think critically in order to resolve problems and come up with creative solutions. My character was shaped and polished by my teachers as well. Hancock introduced me to the idea that genuine success can only be achieved through hard work and personal accountability, and that treating others with respect and courtesy is just as important a responsibility as anything else in life. It seems that these values are increasingly rare in today's world, and we are fortunate that Hancock continues to teach young people and prepare them for the future. Walker Jones
I attended Hancock Day School and Hancock Academy from 2nd grade through 8th grade. My years at Hancock prepared me very well for high school, college, and the working world. The lessons that I learned from Mr. and Mrs. Bell and the faculty were invaluable, giving me a foundation of education and discipline, and shaping me into the person that I am today. With the new Hancock, faculty, parents and students will face certain changes. We faced similar changes when I attended Hancock, adding grades beyond 5th to the school body. With the direction, leadership, and dedication of the Bells and the faculty, we came out with a wealth of knowledge and preparedness for the next steps in our lives, and I feel certain today’s Hancock will be successful navigating its changes. This year I sent my children off to the first and sixth grades. My children’s first day of school made me remember how I felt on my first day of first grade. I don’t think I will ever forget my teacher that year, Mrs. Ardelia Reese. She was everything that first grade should be - exciting, creative, strict, kind - all wrapped up with love. My years at Hancock have provided me with many, many fond memories, which in turn made me realize how important the formative years are to a child. The teachers, whose names I still remember, staff, and administrators all provided that same consistent, nurturing environment that every child deserves to have. I was nervous and worried that my children might not have the same kinds of wonderful teachers and experiences with school that I did. Now, as we are through the first quarter, I find that the nervousness has subsided as it does every year. Every day I ask my children, “How was school today?” even though I already know the answer will be the same. As they reply with their usual “Great!” I breathe a sigh of relief. From Kindergarten through 5th grade, my days at Hancock were amazing. I am sure that my parents would agree that the academic foundation and guidance I received at HDS and later at Hancock Academy certainly cleared the path for my academic success in high school, college, and graduate school. Although I do not live close enough for my children to attend Hancock, I did use many of the same criteria when searching for the right educational environment for them. “Train up a child in the way he should go…” is in my thoughts daily. For Mrs. Emmie Ruth Hancock, Mr. and Mrs. Bell, and all of those who have carried on the tradition, please know that it can still be a mantra for parents and teachers to remember. Thank you for some of the most wonderful childhood memories that anyone could ever ask for! And thank you for the dedication to such a strong academic program that continues to endure as you prepare children for the future. As an alumnus of such an outstanding program, I can say that I am proud to have been a part of the tradition that was, is and shall be Hancock! Caroline Canady Proctor |
