Diversity

Hancock Day School is a respected private school, that recognizes the knowledge of multiple cultures and the intermingling of various backgrounds is, at times, just as valuable as anything students will learn academically. Therefore, we are committed to creating a diverse, enriching and positive environment for our students, faculty and staff. Hancock admits students regardless of race, creed, color or national origin, provided these students meet our academic qualifications. It is our daily goal to make sure that our students are admirable, well-rounded human beings. A diverse atmosphere, in which everyone is acknowledged and respected is essential in assuring future success.

Hancock Day School seeks to enroll preschool, elementary and middle school students who will be successful candidates in a challenging academic program. Testing and assessment involves a team of teachers and administrators to assure that the best decisions are made for each candidate. Those students who benefit most from our program are inquisitive, strongly motivated and highly committed to challenges and opportunities as those offered at Hancock.

The admissions process begins with a tour of the school. Testing and evaluation sessions are scheduled during January and February. Two Saturday mornings are set for this purpose. Preschool and kindergarten candidates are assessed on basic readiness skills. Elementary students are administered reading and math tests and are required to produce a simple writing sample. Test results are reviewed by the Admissions Committee to determine admission. The parent is contacted by phone or by mail; a letter of acceptance, an application and a statement of fees are provided at this time.

Prekindergarten students must turn four years old on or before September 1.
Kindergarten students must turn five years old on or before September 1.

An Open House is scheduled for a Sunday afternoon in November. Morning coffees and tours are scheduled on Wednesday mornings in December and January. Dates for these events will be released in September.
